Build Like a Princess was inspired by our 5 year-old daughter and her love of building things. My goal is to spread awareness around the current shortage of skilled trades workers in Canada and promote the support for women in the trades.

As a tradesperson, I wanted a book for bedtime that our daughter and I could bond over. She wanted a story with “tools AND tutus”. I wanted something that would encourage her to stay true to herself while inspiring her passion of building.

The more I talked about our relationship with other trade parents, the more I realized that my daughter and I were not alone; there are several other daughter-dad duos out there that love to spend time working together. Just like that, Build Like a Princess was born.
